So tell me about yourself?

So tell me about yourself?

That’s that infamous 1st question often asked at job interviews; well, any interview for that matter and one of the hardest questions to answer if you ask me. It’s almost as if you have to wrap up your life’s achievemets, skills and likes into a 30 second elevater pitch!

I remember taking an advanced public speaking class during my undergraduate studies. The first day of class my professor walked in and handed us each a fortune cookie, asked us to open it (eat it if we were hungry), read the “fortune” (if you wish to call it that) and write a 3 minute speech about the fortune and how it relates to your life. Well, allz I can say is that my deororant ran out in 3 minutes (it was no longer a Secret..lol)!! Whatever fear I had of standing in the front of the room, in front of complete strangers, quickly vanished – for their was no room or time to run out the classroom! I dont remember what I wrote about, it was nine years ago, but I do remember it was a test of me, of who I was and my purpose. The class was amazing; I went on to give all sorts of presentations/speeches – the hardest, well that was having to write my “eulogy”. I immediately thought this lady had lost all her sences! But as I look back, I realize how impactful this assignment and class was – it was an opportunity to reflect, to take notice of “you” and your purpose! Very similar to that interview question – “tell me about you”?

It’s the one question you prepare for; memorize your pitch, but yet still manage to stumble, to leave something out or if you’re anything like me – forget your answer (lol…..don’t worry, it only happened once, but I still gave a pretty great sypnosis).

In any case – it really is a great question; one of reaffirmation – it’s all about YOU!

So whether you’re on the job hunt and having to answer this question at every interview (like me) or you’re in a phase in your life where you are questioning your purpose – ask yourself the infamous question – for I am sure you will feel inspired by your own being! AND….if you’re not feeling inspired – no worries, there is ALWAYS time to change that!

Remember, you are in control. Dig deep and reflect because chances are you’re not giving yourself the credit and praise you so deserve!

So tell me a little bit about yourself – I would love to learn & hear about you…
